President Mills swears in Amissah-Arthur as Governor of BoG

kwesi_arthurAccra, Oct. 6, GNA – President John Evans Atta Mills on Tuesday swore-in Mr Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur, as the new Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BOG).

He expressed confidence in the Governor, as having the antecedents and very adequately prepared for the job.

“I hope that Ghana under his Governorship will be able to move in the right direction so that we’ll build a better Ghana,” President Mills said, after administering the Oath of Office, Secrecy and Allegiance.

President Mills congratulated Mr Amissah-Arthur, an Economist and former Deputy Minister of Finance during the previous ruling National Democratic Congress administration.

Mr Amissah-Arthur, who assumed duty on Thursday, October 1, succeeded Dr Paul Acquah, who stepped down after eight years in office.

Mr Amissah-Arthur had been involved in the team of technocrats who managed Ghana’s structural adjustment programme since the 1980′s.

Mr J. H. Martey Newman, Chief of Staff, urged the new Governor, to consult despite his vast experience and the autonomous nature of the BOG.

He stressed the need for the adoption of measures for an effective monetary and fiscal policy.

Mr Amissah-Arthur expressed appreciation to the government for the assignment and pledged to work hard to achieve good results.
