A campaign promise to be fulfilled for Tamale hospital

The Management of the Tamale Teaching Hospital, has expressed appreciation to the government for approving funds for the refurbishment of the medical facility to befit its status as a referral centre.

Dr Ken Sagoe, Chief Executive Officer of the hospital, who addressed the media in Tamale on Monday, appealed to Parliament to consider the plight of the hospital and approve the 28 million Euros loan to ensure that major rehabilitation and upgrading works were tackled as soon as possible.

He said an additional storey block would be added to the hospital for administrative duties, whilst the current administrative offices would be converted into wards to address the problem of patient accommodation.

“We therefore wish to use this medium to commend government and express our profound appreciation for fulfilling its campaign promise of renovating the hospital”, Dr Sagoe said and called on people of the Metropolis to give the needed co-operation and assistance when works start.

He assured clients of the hospital that the renovation works would not affect the operation of the hospital.

Cabinet has approved for the consideration of Parliament, a loan of 28 million Euros for major rehabilitation and upgrading works at the Teaching Hospital.

The works, according to Information Minister, Mrs. Zita Okaikoi was expected to be completed in 56 months.

The hospital inaugurated in 1974, had never received any major rehabilitation.
