Foreign Affairs Ministry Moves To Golden Jubilee

By on Wednesday, 4th November 2009

The government says it has with immediate effect, moved the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Regional Integration, albeit temporarily, to the Administration and General Services Wings of the Golden Jubilee House.

A statement by the Office of The Chief of Staff said as a long-term solution, a new structure to house the Ministry is to be expeditiously constructed at the repossessed parcel of land at Airport, where the former International Students Hostel was located.

The relocation has become necessary after fire gutted the entire 10-storey building of the Ministry, almost a fortnight ago.

Following the fire, officers of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are currently using the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) as their temporary offices.

Meanwhile, the Chinese government has agreed to construct a modern office complex for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Work on the office complex, to be located at the former International Students Hostel at the Airport Junction in Accra, is to begin by the end of this year and is expected to be completed within two years.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alhaji Mohammed Mumuni, made this known yesterday when the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China donated office equipment to the ministry.

Alhaji Mumuni said the Chinese Government had sent down a prototype of the office complex to the Ghanaian Government to make its input.

Consequently, he said, the Architectural and Engineering Services Limited (AESL) had examined the prototype and made input based on Government’s recommendation.

Alhaji Mumuni said the Chinese Government was studying the input of the AESL to re-tune the planning or structuring of the office complex.
