Policeman On The Run Over Alleged Defilement

By GNA on Wednesday, 18th November 2009

Constable Peter Akoto Owusu of the Penyi Police station is said to be on the run over alleged defilement of a 14-year-old primary six pupil at the police station.

A police source told the Ghana News Agency at Dzodze that Owusu initially denied the incident but allegedly admitted the offence and pleaded with the parents of the girl to agree to an amicable settlement.

He however absconded when the issue came to the attention of his superior officers.

Owusu was said to have denied bail to the girl over an incident between a group of girls including the victim and some boys one of whom was allegedly injured by the victim.

The source said Owusu forced the girl out of the cell at gun point and defiled her twice on a student mattress near the counter and dared her to report the incident to anybody.

The girl complained of pains in her private part and mentioned Owusu as the one who had defiled her.

Mr Akwasi Asafo Agyei, Assistant Superintendent of Police in charge of the Dzodze District, confirmed the incident.

He said the Penyi Police failed to report the incident to him until he had wind of it and went to that Police station to have Owusu arrested but he had absconded.
