By on Monday, 23rd November 2009

Vodafone Ghana on Monday inaugurated the first ever internet café in the Vodafone family anywhere in the world.

The 100-seat café located at the Cantonments branch of the company, has both broadband and Wi-fi hotspot, offering customers a world class high speed internet services at a cost of GH¢2.5 per hour.

Mr Selorm Fiador, Head of Retail and sales, said: “The internet café has the fastest speed in Ghana and Africa with over 40 megabytes per second officially and in testing close to 100 megabytes per second.”

He said the café also had a gaming section with top of the line graphic card and multimedia kits.

Mr Fiador said the café was just one of 10 to be launched across the country before the close of the year, adding that four more would be established at the Accra Mall, Tema, Accra North and Accra Central, and one each in Kumasi, Ho, Koforidua, Takoradi and Tamale.

“Vodafone is committed to meeting the total communications needs of Ghanaians and these internet cafés are a demonstration of this,” he said.

He said, among others, students and academics could conduct research at the cafés whilst business persons could also use them to initiate and follow up transactions.

Mr Fiador assured current and prospective customers that Vodafone would continue to offer reliable and “always on” broadband internet access through its cafes.
