NPP Holds Elections In Brong Ahafo Region

By gafaru on Thursday, 26th November 2009

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has so far conducted elections in 16 out of the 24 constituencies in the Brong-Ahafo Region to elect new executives to steer the affairs of the party for the next four years.

The elections were all supervised by the officials of the Electoral Commission and were violence-free.

The Regional Secretary of the party, Mr. Anthony Kusi said elections in the remaining eight constituencies would be held by the end of November, barring any technical hitches.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Sunyani he named the remaining eight constituencies as Asunafo South, Atebubu/Amantin, Kintampo North, Berekum, Pru, Sene, Tano North and Asutifi South.

He expressed optimism that the peaceful atmosphere that had characterized the elections so far would prevail in the remaining constituencies.

Mr. Kusi said “we observed during the elections that the NPP still has strong support base at the grassroots level, which is an indication that the party despite its failure in the last elections still commands the support of the masses.”

“The likelihood of the NPP taking back power is on the high side. We are very hopeful of the party’s success in the next election and it is advisable that all supporters, sympathizers and members of the party would work even harder to win more parliamentary seats in the region, as well as the Presidential election in the 2012 elections,” he said.
