President John Evans Atta Mills has called on the President of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs and other appropriate committees to mediate in the Okuapeman chieftaincy dispute which is hindering development in the area.
The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, has observed that the joint celebrations of the Eid-Fitr and the centenary of Ghana’s first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, has a religious significance.
Vice-President John Dramani Mahama has stated that the government’s decision to celebrate the life of Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, is a demonstration to the current generation that the country is worth dying for. He noted that Dr Nkrumah might not have been alone in the struggle to attain independence for Ghana, “but in every struggle it is the ideals of an individual that bring the strands of the struggle to the intended climax”.

Dr Kwame Nkrumah was not just the first President of Ghana but a very extraordinary man whose life and works contributed significantly to changing the world.
“You see before you — in all its majesty, strength and power — the Akosombo Dam, 463 feet from the lowest foundations, and 2,200 feet long, which has tamed the turbulent waters of the Volta, turning them into the beautiful vast lake which will ultimately cover over three per cent of the surface area of our country.”
Hundreds of people from across Africa, America, Europe, Asia, The Caribbean, Pacific and other parts of the world are trooping down to Ghana to celebrate the centenary birthday of Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, which falls on Monday, September 21, 2009.
From the beginning Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first President, and Founder stated his vision and objectives succinctly at the Old Polo Grounds on March 6, 1957 that Ghana’s independence was meaningless unless it was linked with the total liberation of the African continent.
